The aim is not to pit the two sisters against each other, but to make Ismene?s voice heard.
"Dear Ismene, my sister, you who share my fate..." says Antigone at the opening of Sophocles? tragedy. These two female figures, Antigone and Ismene, are linked by family and destiny, yet they seem to be the opposite of each other.
Antigone chooses death, Ismene chooses life. Where Ismene, driven by a principle of reality, resigns herself, Antigone on the contrary rebels and defies Creon.
In whose name does Antigone commit herself? In whose name does Ismene exist?
Is she only there to serve as a foil for her sister, to highlight Antigone?s courage and determination?
What is her version of the story?
What does she have to tell us, having grown up surrounded by the heroes of Greek tragedy that everyone remembers?
